Chesham has a new padel venue at a working pub. Padel at the Pub has opened two courts at The Black Horse on The Vale, with no membership and a café on site. The operator says the courts launched on 19 September 2026, and they are uncovered for now.

What is Padel at the Pub?

Padel at the Pub adds padel courts to working pubs, and The Black Horse in Chesham is the operator’s first site.

The company says it handles planning, construction, technology, marketing and operations for partner pubs, in exchange for a share of court hire revenue. Trade coverage names Sam Schroder as owner of the Chesham site and describes it as the flagship for the wider Padel at the Pub Group. No other sites have been named.

What is at The Black Horse?

The Black Horse has two padel courts, a daytime Padel Café, the pub and its garden bar and grill, plus free on-site parking.

Playtomic lists the courts as Padel 1 and Padel 2, both outdoor. The Padel Café serves coffee, soft drinks and light bites from 8am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. The pub has an à la carte menu, a Sunday roast and an outdoor bar and grill in the garden in summer. The operator also says the venue is dog-friendly.

Players who book Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm get 10% off food and drink at the café or the pub by showing their booking confirmation.

Are the courts covered?

The operator’s booking page says the courts are uncovered for now and due to be covered later in the year, so pack for the weather.

Its about and location pages still describe two covered, floodlit panoramic courts.

We have gone with the booking page, because it carries a direct warning to players and Playtomic also lists the courts as outdoor. Our guide to indoor vs outdoor padel covers what changes in the cold.

How much does it cost?

The operator lists £32 an hour off-peak and £40 at peak, without saying whether that is per court or per player.

Off-peak is 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Peak is 4pm to 10pm on weekdays, and all weekend. Rackets can be hired from vending machines at the courts from £3 per racket per session, and a tube of balls costs £6. You can cancel up to two hours before your session for a full refund or credit.

The price basis matters, so check the total at checkout before you split it four ways. Prices were as listed on the operator’s site on 1 November 2026.

How do you book a court?

You book through Playtomic with no membership. The operator lists court hours of 7am to 10pm daily, but Playtomic shows 8am to 10pm.

On Sunday 1 November the Playtomic grid showed no free slots on either court that day, so book ahead. If you have not booked on the app before, our guide to booking a padel court in the UK explains how it works. The operator offers coaching for all levels and open social sessions, and asks you to email info@padelatp.com to arrange coaching. New to the sport? Read your first padel session before you go.

When did it open?

The operator says the courts launched on 19 September 2026, but Bar Magazine reported an opening on 12 September, so sources differ by a week.

Both dates are Saturdays. Bar Magazine described a launch event with live music, food and drink, and The Padel Paper reported the site as open on 1 October without giving a date.

We cannot reconcile the two dates from the sources we have, so we have not picked one for ourselves.

Getting there and other Chesham padel

The Black Horse is at The Vale, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, HP5 3NS, just off the A416. The operator quotes drive times of around 10 to 16 minutes from Amersham, Berkhamsted, Great Missenden and Wendover.

Chesham has a second padel venue. Game4Padel Chesham 1879 on Pednormead End, HP5 2JU, lists two outdoor, uncovered courts on its MATCHi booking page. We have not verified its prices.
