Crewe is not known for sport. It is known for trains – and for being the kind of town where a lot of residents commute elsewhere to do things. Including, until recently, play padel.
That is changing. Two venues now offer courts within five miles of the town centre, a planning application is in for five more courts right on the edge of the retail park near the station, and Nantwich – four miles down the road – opened a purpose-built four-court facility earlier this year. For a town that had nothing a couple of years ago, the south Cheshire padel scene has arrived quickly.
Here is what is open now, what is coming, and what your options are if you want more courts than the local supply can offer.
What is open near Crewe right now
Two venues are within easy reach. Both are pay-and-play, both use Playtomic, and neither requires a membership.
| Venue | Distance from Crewe | Courts | Price per hour | Booking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheshire Padel – Crewe Vagrants | ~2 miles | 2 outdoor | £20–£35 | Playtomic |
| Everybody Padel – Nantwich Barony | ~4 miles | 4 outdoor | £28–£34 | Playtomic |
Cheshire Padel – Crewe Vagrants Sports Club
This is the closest option to Crewe. Cheshire Padel operates two outdoor courts at Crewe Vagrants Sports Club on Newcastle Road in Shavington – about two miles south of the town centre. It was the first padel facility in South Cheshire.
Courts cost £20–£35 per hour depending on when you book. Rackets are available to hire, and there are coaching sessions and social events on the calendar. The club atmosphere is relaxed and social – Crewe Vagrants is a well-established multi-sport and social club, so there is a bar, car parking, and a warm-up area to use before or after a court session.
Book via Playtomic or Playskan. The venue address is Newcastle Rd, Shavington, CW5 7EP.
Everybody Padel – The Barony, Nantwich
Nantwich Barony Sports Complex opened four outdoor padel courts in February 2026. Operated by Everybody Health and Leisure, the facility is around four miles from Crewe and is the bigger venue of the two local options.
Pricing is £28 per court off-peak and £34 at peak times – or £7–£8 per person for open match sessions. Everybody members get a 10% discount and a longer booking window. Racket hire is available, coaching runs at various levels, and the Barony complex has a full range of other sports facilities alongside the courts.
Book via Playtomic. The Barony is located in the heart of Nantwich.
Coming soon: courts in Crewe town centre
A planning application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council for five padel courts and a clubhouse at Grand Junction Retail Park on Grand Junction Way – the brownfield site at the southern tip of the retail park, close to the railway station and behind the Food Warehouse.
The proposed development would add 25,000 sq ft of padel provision to the town, with a shipping-container clubhouse, dedicated parking, and canopy-covered courts. A decision was targeted for June 2026. If approved, it would give Crewe a proper town-centre padel facility for the first time.
If you want more: Chester and Manchester
Two outdoor courts in Shavington and four in Nantwich cover the basics, but if you want a wider choice of venues, two cities are close enough for a day session.
Chester is about 20 minutes from Crewe and has 17 venues with 65 courts between them – one of the most active padel scenes in the North West. Padel Sheds Chester has four indoor courts from £36–£46 per hour. See our full padel in Chester guide for the complete picture.
Manchester is around 45 minutes away and has a much bigger padel scene. Carbon Padel in West Gorton is the flagship with 17 indoor courts. See padel in Manchester for venues across the city.

What playing padel near Crewe is like
The local scene is still early-stage. Two courts at Shavington means availability can be tight at peak times – particularly evenings and weekend mornings. Nantwich Barony is a more spacious option with four courts, and the Everybody Health and Leisure set-up includes coaching programmes that are well suited to newer players.
The commuter geography of south Cheshire works in the scene’s favour. Many Crewe residents travel regularly to Manchester or Chester for work – and those cities both have established padel venues that regulars will already know. Local provision means you no longer have to make a special trip.
The Grand Junction planning application is the one to watch. If it goes through, five courts next to the railway station would change the dynamic substantially – making Crewe a padel destination in its own right, with no need to look elsewhere for a court.
Beginners: where to start
If you have never played before, both local venues are well suited to a first session.
Cheshire Padel at Crewe Vagrants runs coaching alongside its pay-and-play courts. Everybody Padel at Nantwich Barony also offers beginner coaching and holiday padel sessions. Either venue will hire you rackets on arrival, so there is no equipment commitment for a first game.
Book a court, bring three friends, and you have everything you need to get started. Padel is designed to be picked up quickly – most beginners are enjoying competitive rallies within the first session.
A few practical things worth knowing before your first visit. Courts at Crewe Vagrants are outdoor, so check the weather before heading out. Nantwich Barony also has outdoor courts, which means both venues are at the mercy of the British climate. The Grand Junction courts – if planning comes through – would have canopy coverage, making them more reliable year-round.
For booking, Playtomic is the platform to use at both venues. Download the app, search for Cheshire Padel or Everybody Padel, and you can see real-time availability and book in a few taps. Courts at both venues can fill quickly on weekend mornings, so book a day or two ahead if you want a reliable slot.
Padel is played in pairs – you need four players for a full court. If you do not have three friends to bring, both venues’ social session programmes are worth checking. Everybody Padel at Nantwich runs open match sessions at £7–£8 per person – a good option for joining a game with players you have not met before.
Courts open: Cheshire Padel (Shavington, 2 outdoor, from £20/hr) · Everybody Padel Barony (Nantwich, 4 outdoor, from £28/hr) · Grand Junction Retail Park (planning, 5 courts)
